Work began on the Walton County segment, which extends from Emerald Bay Drive to Tang-O- Mar Drive, fall 2016.
Crews are currently working in the median and on the north side of the roadway to prepare for a traffic shift later this year. When traffic is shifted, crews will work to construct the new eastbound travel lanes on the south side of the current roadway.
The $42 million project includes the addition of bicycle lanes and sidewalks, traffic signals, and drainage system improvements. Work to widen and improve US 98 in Walton County is currently slated for completion in summer 2020.

During construction, drivers can anticipate temporary, nighttime lane restrictions between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Two east and two westbound travel lanes will be maintained at all other times. Construction activities are weather dependent and might be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
