The Interactive Highway Safety Design Model (IHSDM) is a suite of software analysis tools for evaluating safety and operational effects of geometric design decisions on highways.
IHSDM is a decision-support tool. It provides estimates of a highway design's expected safety and operational performance and checks existing or proposed highway designs against relevant design policy values. IHSDM results support decision making in the highway design process. Intended users include highway project managers, designers, and traffic and safety reviewers in State and local highway agencies and engineering consulting firms.
IHSDM currently includes six evaluation modules (Crash Prediction, Design Consistency, Intersection Review, Policy Review, Traffic Analysis, and Driver/Vehicle). This Web site summarizes the capabilities and applications of the IHSDM evaluation modules. It also provides a library of the research reports documenting their development.

The scope of this 2006 assessment covered all of the components of a traffic records system. The purpose was to determine whether the Florida traffic records system is capable of supporting management’s needs to identify the state’s safety problems, to manage the countermeasures applied to reduce or eliminate those problems, and to evaluate those programs for their effectiveness. The following discusses some of the key findings regarding the ability of the present traffic records system to support management of the state’s highway safety programs.
